But the warm glow of the lama’s heart shone so brightly that the hulking yeti laid not

a hairy finger on him. Instead, he threw himself on the ground and rested his head

before the old man’s feet, pacified as a pussycat. “Won’t you have some cheese?”

asked the lama. “There’s enough to go around. How about some hot butter tea?”

“Harrumph!” The yeti sniffed at the stinky cheese.

“Slurrrrp!” He tried the salty tea, rich with toasted

barley. Would the lama chase him off, as the

frightened villagers always did? No, they just sat

by the fire, munching yak cheese and slurping

Tibetan tea like long-lost brothers.
